An acetylene plant is used to make acetylene gas. This process is called the "water gas reaction." The acetylene gas is then stored in small tanks. It can be used by factories and welders. One of the most common uses of acetylene is to create metal cutting machine tools with metal cutting torches fired by acetylene.
A modern acetylene plant can contain as many as five reactors connected in a chain, which allow for production of more acetylene gas more quickly, and more efficient use of electricity, as well as making it easier to clean the equipment, ultimately saving money on plant operation.
The system consists of a gas generator connected directly to a carbide generator. A single-cylinder liquid pump or a gear pump is used to fill the generator with water and acetylene to preset pressures equal to the product pressure plus a small amount of liquid acetylene contained in the carbide bed. The solution is then released through a throttling valve into the mixer where the acetylene reacts with air to form acetylene gas and decomposes the water into oxygen and hydrogen gases. After cooling in a condenser, the gas mixture is collected in an accumulator and sent to conduit lines or safeties for separation. This subsystem provides three options that would require significantly more equipment to provide:
(1) Water gas reaction
(2) Water/air reaction
(3) Oxygen generation
The acetylene plants is a crucial component of steel mills, aluminium smelters, and other industrial plants that make use of this flammable gas. Though the plant is fitted with backup mechanisms, it maintains consistent levels of this vital substance to avoid any production downtime.
For maximum productivity in a minimum of space, choose a Bhartiya Cryogas Acetylene Plant. The company’s cleverly designed versatile plants are supplied with packaged equipment, including Acetylene Generators and Welding Machines, providing complete flexibility for operation.
Bhartiya Cryogas engineers have designed and developed the most advanced Acetylene Plants fitted with High Pressured Regulators, Gas & Liquid Flow Metres, Data Loggers, Pressure Reducing Valves & Accumulators.
The company is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of Acetylene Plants. Our fully automatic Acetylene plants are available in capacities from 25m3/hr to 200m3/Hr. In a Stationary Carbide to Water type Automatic Acetylene Generator acetylene is produced by reaction of calcium carbide with water. Adequate quantity of water is held in the generator shell to which calcium carbide is fed from top. The Ca (o2) crystals go into slaking with water and they crack into CaCO 3 and CO2.
In the process of slaking, oxygen is released and it causes ignition of Ca (o2) slakes contained in the generator shell. The heat generated in this way heats the water, which continues the reaction between Ca (o2) and the water, resulting in generation of acetylene gas.
