With sharp increase in Covid delta variant Omicron cases in New Delhi, Delhi government has issued an order to install telemetry devices on oxygen plants tanks of 53 government and private hospitals in the national capital. Many hospitals did not install the devices despite repeated orders from the administration after it came to know that a large number of patients died due to inadequate supply of oxygen in five government hospitals last year during covid second wave.
The Delhi government has made it mandatory for all private and government run hospitals of the national capital to have liquid medical oxygen tanks with them. In case a hospital does not have a liquid medical oxygen tank, then it can get it from the Delhi government's stock. These liquid medical oxygen tanks will be monitored by the officials via the telemetry devices installed in each of these liquid medical oxygen tanks. These telemetry devices work in real-time and help monitoring officials find out how much oxygen is present in a liquid medical oxygen tank at any given time. This information is put on display on the war room of the Delhi government so that officials will act accordingly in delivering additional supplies of oxygen to hospitals which do not have enough oxygen left in their liquid medical oxygen tanks.
A telemetry device is a monitoring and measurement device that is characterized by the transmission of information over a telecommunications network. The Delhi government has come up with this new system as a medical emergency situation arises every time when there is a gas leak or due to some similar reasons.
Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) storage tanks are an essential piece of equipment to provide medical oxygen to patients. The liquid stored in the medical oxygen tank is 99% oxygen, which provides enough oxygen for a patient to breathe while on the move or while being transported.
A liquid oxygen tank is used for storing oxygen at higher pressure than atmospheric pressure. It is an important part of a life support equipment and apparatus that provides oxygen for use by the patient during medical treatment. It has a finite volume of liquid oxygen that is stored under pressure.
