Dr Angelique Coetzee -- the South African general practitioner who first very perceptively noticed the arrival of Omicron in patients in her surgery in Pretoria -- bluntly suggests commonsensical measures to keep yourself safe from this highly contagious variant of the COVID-19 virus.
At first glance, the Omicron strain of the COVID-19 virus looks like an average flu. But, according to Dr Angelique Coetzee -- the South African general practitioner who first very perceptively noticed the arrival of Omicron in patients in her surgery in Pretoria -- it bears a significant difference.
Coetzee, 61 also slammed everyone for preaching fear, instead of empowering people to understand what you need to be looking out for. Once you know what is causing the problem, one would know how to act. One cannot act if you don’t know.
Moreover the virus wants to survive that is why it will mutate to escape vaccines or antibodies. So unless the majority gets vaccinated, the virus will continue to come back in a different form and make people sick.
In India, the Omicron continues to spread across different states. Till Friday, the number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus have touched 1,270 across the country, with Maharashtra reporting 450 cases, Uttar Pradesh 423 and Karnataka 4. According to the Health Ministry, 125 people who were infected have recovered so far.
The government has put Maharashtra on high alert. Several healthcare facilities across the state have been asked to set up isolation wards and acquire facilities like Rapid Diagnostic Kits (RADK) to carry out tests for the virus.
SURGE IN OXYGEN PLANTS DEMAND
Even the global demand for oxygen plants has increased due to Covid epidemic. The latest global outbreak of new corona variant Omicron has put urgency in boosting health care facilities and infrastructures. Adequate and abundant supply of medical oxygen is one of the most important infrastructure requirements that government authorities across the world are implementing.
