It is important to ensure that liquid oxygen plants have just a continuous power supply.

"Covid-19 will be on the rise in Eastern European countries with lower vaccination rates, as well as Western European countries with arguably the highest vaccine rates in the world," Tedros added. "That's just another reminder, as we've stated before, that vaccinations don't take over the role of other safeguards."

Every country's reaction should indeed be adapted to its situation, he said, but physical separation and masking should be used to assist, restrict transmission and relieve pressure on health care systems.
