Covid-19: Five Members of Surat family test positive Includes twin

In a surprising case, a Surat in Gujarat based family with three years old twins and three adults who were fully vaccinated has tested positive on return from a trip to Mahabaleshwar in neighboring Maharashtra. During the deadly second wave of Corona outbreak in India, Maharashtra and Gujarat were amongst worst affected states. Some pockets in these states still has high corona positive cases.

According to health officials in Surat, the senior family members including the 67-year-old man, his son and daughter-in-law were fully vaccinated against Coronavirus. The family’s travel itinerary revealed that the elderly patriarch was first on business trip to Pune in Maharashtra. He then travelled back to Surat. Few days later all five members of family traveled to Mahabaleshwar of one day trip.

P H Umrigar told Press Trust of India (PTI) that the senior citizen first showed mild symptoms of the Corona infection and tested positive on further tests on November 12. Alarmed health officials immediately started the contact testing on which four others including baby twins were found positive. Since they have mild symptoms, they have been allowed home isolation and put under constant surveillances.

As a precautionary measure, post Deepawali, Surat Civic authorities have made it mandatory for residents to undertake RT- PCR test for all who have traveled outside and coming back in the city. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken further steps to check the spread of virus by disallowing from entering public places like gardens or using public transport if they are not fully vaccinated (two dosage of anti-Corona vaccination).

Till Saturday, Surat one of Gujarat’s biggest city, has reported 1,11,766 Coronavirus positive cases . Total deaths reported is 1.629 since the outbreak of pandemic last year. The recovery rates stood 98.5 % with 1,10,098 positive cases fully cured. The biggest weapons against Corona still remains vaccination, masking and social distancing. Unnecessary travel should also be avoided especially during rush seasons of festivals as per experts.
