The Centre has cleared 162 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen units for installation in public healthcare facilities, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Union Ministry of Health Welfare announced that the New center has accepted the insertion of 162 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants in public health facilities in the United states due to a fear of a medical oxygen shortage as the coronavirus causes stress all across the country.
According to the ministry, "The Government of India has approved the building of 162 PSA oxygen plants at health care facilities across the country. These will add 154.19 MT (metric tons) to medical oxygen supply."
"Of the 162 PSA plants sanctioned by the govt, 33 have already been installed - five in Madhya Pradesh, four in Himachal Pradesh, three each in Chandigarh, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand, two each in Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana; and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh," the Ministry said.
The installation of PSA oxygen plants in public health facilities has been well received by the states, according to the government.
In addition to the 162 plants which have already been sanctioned, the states have demanded more than 100 additional plants, which are indeed being sanctioned, according to the Health Ministry.
33 of the 162 PSA oxygen plants have been installed, with a total of 59 plants to be deployed and 80 oxygen plants to be completed later.
The government has covered the whole cost of 162 PSA oxygen plants, totaling Rs 201.58 crore, according to a statement from the Ministry.
According to the ministry, it also includes 7 years of maintenance fees, which also will begin after the third year of insurance has passed.
