The cryogenic oxygen plant is an industrial facility that electrolytically produces liquid oxygen in large quantities. When compressed, it is stored and transported in steel cylinders with a capacity of 700 litres and 1400 litres respectively.

Each cryogenic oxygen plant is made up of a compressor station, a cryogenic distillation system, and a flasher that serves as the final processing unit. The station consists of the following: compressor (air compressor), gas recovery unit, feed gas pipeline and gas tail pipeline.

Oxygen plant is in a high-quality steel-reinforced construction. The working pressure ranges from 0.5 to 3 MPa (mega pascal). The plant works on the basis of the cryogenic method, which uses an air compressor, flasher, heat exchanger and auxiliary equipment necessary for oxygen production.

The oxygen plant produces oxygen and nitrogen in the cryogenic system using air as a raw material. The air compressor raises air pressure to approximately 170-200 atm. The cryogenic distillation system is based on a vapor-liquid equilibrium and uses the principle of nitrogen balance. Nitrogen formed during the distillation process is automatically returned to the process of obtaining oxygen.

How does the cryogenic oxygen plant work?

The cryogenic oxygen plant is a gas production facility at which the air with the oxygen content of 30-35 %, in liquid phase or saturated vapours at 20°C, are produced. The oxygen production capacities are up to 1500 tonnes per day of liquid oxygen, up to 5000 tonnes per day of saturated vapours, and 3000 tonnes per day of liquefied oxygen. The oxygen concentration inside the containers which store the product may be from 51 % to 65 %. All valves and pipelines that are under pressure and those that go to underground pipelines, should be insulated. Otherwise, their operation will fail if their sheath is cooled below O °C.
