An acetylene plant is a chemical manufacturing facility that produces acetylene gas by the reaction of water and carbon dioxide by passing electricity. It is a colorless, flammable, non-hydrogenated hydrocarbon gas.
Acetylene plant can be categorized into various types, including gas diffusion plant and compressed acetylene method. It is important in making chemicals such as ethylene, methane, methanol and acetic acid, but also used in welding torches as a fuel source. All of these different chemicals are produced by hydrolysis of acetylene. To create this process, gas is cooled to turn it into liquid but not condense it back into a solid—a process known as liquefaction.
The acetylene plant is a catalytic cracker, which means it uses a catalyst to cause cracking of the ethylene gas and steam mixture. The plant has two separate cyclic processes; the first cycles gas and steam through an oven called a generator, where the energy needed to drive the cracking reactions is provided by heat from the combustion of natural gas or propane. The cracked product is separated into gases at this stage, so an extraction furnace is used to remove water from these gases. This is usually a two-step process using an absorption tower and a stripping tower with hydrogen as the stripping agent. The extracted gases are then cooled, treated and transported to be used industrially or shipped by pipeline to another site.
Typically, these gases will be further refined into petrochemicals such as polypropylene, acetaldehyde or butadiene which can be blended into consumer products like plastics for car dashboards––or even toothpaste!
Acetylene gas also serves as a feed stock for the production of ethylene, vinyl chloride, and other chemicals and as fuel for welding, brazing, and cutting applications. The word acetylene evolved from the combination of two Greek words, ake, meaning acid, and thene, meaning a candle. The chemical formula for acetylene is C2H2. When acetylene gas is burned it produces (CH2)2O, also known as carbon oxide. This chemical can be used to make many different chemicals.
Bhartiya Cryogas is a Government of India company with the approval for manufacturing of acetylene gas from 1981 and is well known company in the country in manufacture of Acetylene Plants. We offer the Latest technology Carbide to Water type Automatic Acetylene Generator (ACG) plants.
Bhartiya Cryogas is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of Acetylene Plants. Our fully automatic Acetylene plants are available in capacities from 25m3/hr to 200m3/Hr. In a Stationary Carbide to Water type Automatic Acetylene Generator acetylene is produced by reaction of calcium carbide with water. Adequate quantity of water is held in the generator shell to which calcium carbide is fed from top. The Ca(O 2 ) crystals go into slaking with water and they crack into CaCO 3 and CO 2 . In process of slaking, oxygen released and it causes ignition of Ca(O 2 ) slakes contained in generator shell. The heat generated in this way heats the water, which continues the reaction between Ca(O 2 ) and the water, resulting in generation of acetylene gas.
Hi-Tech Acetylene Plants are suitable for all industries. We offer customized solutions to meet your specific production requirements. We offer a complete solution that includes the plant, site supervision, catalyst and final product recovery. Our plants are designed to assist you in meeting the challenging demand for acetylene as a chemical intermediate or for welding purposes. We also provide you with the options to add hydrogen generation for Hydrogen Oxygen (H2O) gas mixture to your plant.
