India, the first nation to transition to endemic Covid
  • PRAKSHI RAWAT

The Covid pandemic is far from done, since daily numbers in very many nations remain high, with epidemic waves not just yet settling down to the minimum and constant figures characteristic of endemic prevalence. India switched from pandemic prevalence on June 27, 2021, and also has sustained it just for the past 145 days (as of November 19).

We went into a 10-week endemic phase after the first wave passed, only to be disrupted either by the second wave. The second wave's Delta variation had a far greater transmission efficiency than the first wave's variant. The current AY.4.2 variation has a data transmission of less than 0.1 percent, indicating that this can overcome Delta transmission. As a result, India has become the first country in the world to attain pandemic incidence.

Case numbers must gradually decrease as the susceptible population pool reduces due to everyday infection and increasing vaccine coverage. Continued endemic transmission is feasible due to the ongoing addition of an immune system response population through births. Government is planning to increase both vaccination and inauguration of liquid oxygen plants.

During pandemic phases, the risks of serious disease for the vulnerable—pregnant women, people over 60, as well as those with comorbid conditions and conditions that influence the immune system, including those taking immunosuppressant’s, organ transplantation, cancers and their treatments, etc.—are the same. They must always be protected by elevated levels of immunity induced by two doses during pregnancy the first time and a single booster dosage the second time, and also a booster dose six months to one year starting with the second dose in all other cases. Booster doses save lives and slow the transmission of infection.

The virus will now have two sources: unvaccinated people who already have waned immunity after two vaccine doses (breakthrough infections) and individuals who have been infected (reinfection). With all that in mind, the vaccine roll-out should change its attention to achieving reference.

Schoolchildren are the most important source of infection, especially as schools reopen. During the pandemic phase, their vaccinations are a top priority; accelerated safety collected data, regulatory assessment, and the extension of emergency use permission for children are indeed important. Covid has affected us in various ways that’s why government is building more PSA oxygen plants.

Anyone whose occupations bring them into touch with a significant number of people in social interactions—healthcare, law enforcement, religion, education, commerce and sales, transportation, manufacturing, hospitality, and so on—should be given preference for vaccinations (including boosters). Their inoculations can be heavily watched by their separate administrative agencies. To do so, an amendment towards the underlying policy is necessary.

The pandemic is still raging in other countries, with India being the only country in the world to have just reached a prolonged pandemic stage. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to demonstrate towards the rest of the world how to deal with a pandemic.
