Modi’s 'Har Ghar Dastak' Campaign to Boost Anti- Covid Vaccination Drive
  • Sunanda Vashisht

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an ambitious scheme to achieve universal anti covid vaccination for all adult population having at least a single dosage on Wednesday. The campaign has been named “Har Ghar Dastak” that would be achieved with help of NGOs (Non-Governmental Organization), CSOs (Civil Society Organization) and Development Partners.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviy, Union Health Minister announcing the scheme said:  “Modi Ji has always emphasized that the achievement with regard to COVID Vaccination is a collective effort of the entire country”.

Jan-Bhagidari (Citizen’s Involvement) is essential for a mammoth India’s vaccination programme. “India stood tall in COVID crisis because of the initiative of non-government organizations and civil society organizations who supplemented the efforts of the government to ensure that nobody slept hungry during the long period of COVID lockdown,” Dr. Mandaviya noted. “They contributed in ensuring that 80% of the population and 40% of the population receive their first and second dose of the vaccine, respectively,” he added.

Emphasizing the need for 100 % immunization to check pandemic in India, the Minister highlighted the examples of developed nations where the health system and healthcare delivery system has got exhausted due to multiple waves of Covid 19 and lockdown.

Highlighting the importance of the second dose in protecting from serious illness and hospitalization, the minister asked health partners to make it an essential component of their communication strategy.

The partners were motivated to work towards generating community awareness and transforming the vaccination exercise into a ‘Jan Andolan’. They were explained how their efforts could boost Government’s initiatives and the areas where they could collaborate. One of the key role partners are expected to implement is devising effective communication strategies to highlight the importance of vaccination. They were asked to make use of their existing social media channels, use of audio-visual content for posting and amplifying positive messages, invigorating advocacy with leading medical professionals at National/State/District level for positive messaging around COVID-19 vaccination, etc.

The communication could also help to dispel myths, misconceptions and doubts related to COVID-19 Vaccine, support on-site mobilization of beneficiaries, participate in State, District & Block Level Task Forces for overall support in planning and implementation of COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Dr. Mandaviya further suggested NGOs/CSO to choose an area based on their capacity to drive up vaccination. Distribution of attractive home stickers notifying completion of both doses of vaccines of the family members could be an effective measure to encourage uptake of vaccine among the population.

Beside the vaccination, the Health Minister is constantly engaged with his counterparts in state government to boost up health infrastructures including adequate availability of medical grade oxygen in case of an emergency. Government hospitals have floated several tender bids to invite private companies to install an oxygen production plant and oxygen supply.

Bhartiya Cryogas is one such oxygen manufacturing company leading the government as well as private hospitals and healthcare facilities efforts to boost the oxygen supply network in India. Much before the Corona’s outbreak, the company has been India’s leading commercial oxygen manufacturer, manufacturer of oxygen plants, and oxygen cylinder filling plants. During the pandemic, they used their vast experience and facilities to immediately produce and supply medical grade oxygen.

During the second wave, Bhartiya Cryogas, top manufacturer and supplier of customized Cryogenic and PSA (PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION) Medical Oxygen Generation plants rose to meet national crisis by quickly turning its vast experience and facilities to produce and supply Medical PSA Oxygen Generator Plant.
