A new factory is soon to be commissioned in the Nehru Industrial Area of Delhi, supplying oxygen for medical and industrial use. The plant will cost Rs. 12 billion and employ around 1,000 people when it finally becomes operational in December this year.

The facility will generate oxygen day-in/day-out and has at its disposal a high capacity cryogenic oxygen plant which ensures uninterrupted production even during power outages.

The oxygen plantwill be handed over to the Delhi Government to ease the shortage of oxygen that is affecting many hospitals in the Capital. The low availability of oxygen has also disturbed the functioning of two major thermal power plants situated within 25 km radius of Delhi. The liquid oxygen plant will satisfy both medical and industrial requirements for the supply of breathable air. It will cater for about 40% hospital needs and approximately 80% for various industries.

The plant, to be erected at an investment of Rs. 12 billion, will generate 1 million cubic meters of oxygen gas daily which would meet around 90% needs of patients in Delhi, 30% needs in Haryana, 60% needs in Himachal Pradesh and 20 % needs in Punjab.

According to predictions, a total of 83 PSA oxygen plants with a capacity of more than 100 MT will indeed be built.

According to the report, 47 oxygen liquid plants with a total capacity of 57 MT have already been commissioned. Satyendar Jain, the Delhi Health Minister, recently stated that now the Kejriwal government is fully prepared to face any future waves of Covid-19 but has a goal is to make Delhi self-reliant in times of crisis.

He stated that the government's plan "provides numerous incentives to the private sector to assist with the strengthening of the oxygen production plants and storage infrastructure."

According to government stats presented at the DDMA conference, five LMO water tanks with a total capacity of 271 MT have already been constructed at five locations.

It is expected that even a cryogenic oxygen plantwith a capacity of 13.4 MT under construction in Siraspur will be commissioned soon. The national capital was already badly hit by the pandemic's second wave, which had dominated the nation recently and taken a large number of people every day, with oxygen constraints at various hospitals aggravating the problem.
