No Covid-19 booster shots for Indians yet, say experts

As vaccination supplies have increased, several Indian doctors and public health officials have encouraged the government to make a booster plan for the most vulnerable, since many Western nations have done.

As per three sources familiar with the case, India is not considering releasing booster COVID-19 doses, because so many people in the world have been naturally infected and the government considers that two doses of a vaccine will provide appropriate safeguards for the time being. Indian government is also supporting Acetylene Plants for increasing production, for establishment of oxygen generating units.

As vaccination supplies have increased, several Indian doctors and public health experts have pushed the government to make a booster plan for the most vulnerable, as many Western nations have done.

However, before concentrating on making a substantial contribution in exports, officials will focus on maintaining that the majority of India's 944 million inhabitants have received a two-dose vaccination by January, according to sources involved in vaccine policy discussions.

So far, 81% of individuals in India have got nearly one dose, with 43% receiving two doses. Vaccination of children under age of 18 still has not commenced. One of the sources stated, "The priority is to completely inoculate the adult population." Because the issue was still being considered by policymakers, the sources declined to just be recognized. "The vast majority have already been infected naturally, and 2 doses are adequate for them. That is why, given current festivals, we are still not noticing an increase in occurrences".

The government will make boosters mandatory once other adults have received two vaccine doses, as per the source. A request for response from the minister of health was not responded. In April and May, India had the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths there in the nation, with government surveys showing that almost 70% of Indians were organically infected by July. So far, the country has registered 34.5 million infections, second to just the United States, with over 465,000 deaths.

Despite the fact that India celebrated two of the most important festivals in October and November, Diwali and Durga Puja, infections have plummeted to multi-month lows.

Many Western democracies are extending their boosters program and increase in number of Oxygen production plant, a policy that has been roundly panned by the World Health Organization.

WHO including the Serum Institute of India, which produces approved versions of the AstraZeneca and Novavax vaccines, believe that boosters would've been allowed early next year. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories has said it is in discussion with India's drug authority on selling Russia's Sputnik Light as a booster dose.

As of early Tuesday, Indian states had a little more than 216 million immunization doses on hand. Since April, India's vaccine supply has almost tripled, reaching roughly 300 million doses every month.
