PSA Oxygen Plant Produces Highly Pure Oxygen & Nitrogen
  • Archana Gulati

PSA (pressure swing adsorption) oxygen plant is designed to produce and store high purity oxygen and nitrogen. The PSA technology was originally used wherever purity was essential and the application was limited in usage, however today the technology is applied in a wide range of industrial applications, due to its excellent flexibility, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

MEDICAL PSA OXYGEN PLANTS are proven to be effective and efficient at producing medical grade oxygen. Many medical facilities throughout the world use MEDICAL PSA OXYGEN PLANTS to safely and efficiently generate quality, medical grade oxygen.

The Oxygen plants by PSA are suitable for producing medical grade oxygen from air. The plant is supplied with a full range of accessories such as burners, blowers and gas regulators. This plant can be operated in an isolated system and fitted with a water treatment unit to ensure the purity of oxygen produced. It can also be integrated in to an advanced respiratory care system. The plan delivers high pressure by using two burners for maximum running efficiency.

The oxygen generating plant PSA is used in industrial and medical applications that demand oxygen of high purity, higher than the 99.6% achieved by standard technologies (oxygen concentrators from air, pure oxygen plants based on liquefaction-re-gasification).

PSA oxygen plants are engineered for reliable, high-capacity industrial and commercial use. Offered from 25 to 5000 tpd capacity, PSA plants have the flexibility to meet a wide range of process applications, resource compositions and flow rates. Plants are available with a comprehensive range of air separation technologies. These include: membrane (Reverse Osmosis [RO], Thin Film Composite Membrane [TFCM]), thermal (Vapor compression [TVC] and Cryogenic [CV]), pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and cryogenic distillation (CD).of manufacturing. For example, hydrogen is a major by-product of the oxygen generator process and is used in the chemical and plastics industries for purging and blowing purposes. In the food industry, oxygen generators are used as a replacement for preservatives and help to avoid recontamination of foods.

Another common method of producing commercial oxygen is through an Air Separation Plant (ASP), also known as Oxygen Plant or Oxygenation Unit, is a facility that produces oxygen. An ASP consists of an air separation unit, a desiccant dehumidification system, an oxygen-cleaning system and other auxiliary systems and components.

Adequate supply of the high-purity oxygen required for a wide range of applications depends on continuous oxygen production installations and air separation plants. They make it possible to cater for fluctuations due to changes in production levels. In addition, they can be tailored to meet your specific requirements.

Air separation plants are units consisting of a compressor, a fractionation column and the necessary instrumentation. These units process air and produce high-purity atmospheric gases by means of pressure reduction and distillation. The main gases produced are oxygen and nitrogen, which are used in industrial operations such as steelmaking and food processing, as well as in environmental control applications, while other component gases (helium, argon, etc.) are also available to meet specific customer requirements.

India’s leading Medical PSA Oxygen plants manufacturer and supplier, the b Bhartiya Cryogas is now a global supplier of the technology. The company’s PSA oxygen generator uses zeolite molecular sieve as sorbent and produces oxygen by making use of the PSA principle. Under certain pressure, zeolite molecular sieve has different oxygen/nitrogen adsorption capacity, i.e. much more nitrogen adsorption capacity than oxygen adsorption capacity.

Bhartiya’s PSA oxygen plants has the purity of 93- 95% suitable for medical consumption capacities ranging from 5m3/hr to 90m3/hr. Some of key features of the gas plant are: All Pressure Vessels shall be fabricated at our Workshop and strictly designed as per ASME SEC VIII DIV.I codes & international standards;  All bought-out Equipment’s / Instruments are of a reputed make; Plant does not require dedicated operator for running the Gas Plant, only period check–up is required; Low capital investment and low operational cost compared to cylinders;  Uses Single stage Filtration system before PSA Towers; the Carbon Molecular sieves is of Latest Grade Takeda, Japan / Carbotech, Germany make & extra quantity of CMS ensures satisfactory plant performance over many years; the Total operation of PSA Valves is done by programmable PLC; On - line percentage Oxygen Analyzer shall have Imported sensor(Citi, U.K.)

The company’s PSA unit consists of two towers filled with a special grade Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS) to adsorb O2 & CO2 present in the air. At the bottom of each tower M.S. perforated plate with 10mm dia. hole and SS wire mesh is welded to hold the CMS filled in the tower. Just above the plate, the ceramic balls are put to act as a holding bed for CMS .The Carbon Molecular Sieves are being filled up to the straight portion at the top of the tower. The perforated plate facing the bottom or the cover is the supporting element while the adsorbent is prevented from flowing out by the wire mesh. A 50 mm thick Coconut fiber mat is packed as the cover to fix the adsorbing bed. The upper perforated plate compresses adsorbent fill to avoid undesired void. The coconut fiber mat is squeezed together when the cover is tightened.

Oxygen from PSA Module has varying purity depending upon the pressure in the adsorbed during the one minute cycle time. This vessel gives product Oxygen at constant pressure with constant average gas purity.
