Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to have 28 new oxygen generation plants soon

To increase supply of oxygen in the region, 28 new oxygen generating plants would indeed be installed in civic hospitals across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad in the coming years.

At the moment, 37 oxygen production plants with an aggregate capacity of 35 MT are operational. There are 22 oxygen plants in Pune rural, they also stated for Acetylene plants for future employment in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and three in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The state's oxygen generation capacity will rise to 70 MT with the addition of 28 new items.

"We have built roughly 12 medical cryogenic oxygen plants all across civic hospitals and six more are proposed," Sanjeev Wavare, assistant medical officer, PMC, told TOI. The engineering team is working on it, but we are confident that the ones that are left will be installed and operational in the next few months".

"The civic organizations’ initiative to build much needed healthcare centers in the civic hospitals is just a welcomed gesture," Sanjay Patil, chairman of the Hospital Board of India, said. We have seen the oxygen crisis previously this year, and fortunately, the recently constructed oxygen cylinder filling plants will avert any more misery".

Even private hospitals, according to Patil, are increasing their oxygen requirements by installing oxygen generatingplants. "There are so many other private hospitals that are interested in upgrading, but the primary reason for such a step back is budgetary constraints". He added that perhaps the Air separation plant is helpful in not only instances like Covid's, but for many other conditions.

According to the district health office's report, with the exception of the PSA oxygen plants, the Pune district's 19 government-run hospitals have 339 mt of functional liquid oxygen storage capacity.
