Pan India Covid-19 wave may have subsided but infection is on rise in several areas making authorities nervous. They fear if infection is not checked and controlled in pockets it would spread to neighboring areas. And once a critical mass get infected, a wave starts.
As per the health ministry data, India reported 10,978 cases of Covid every day on an average in the week ending November 17. Analysis of data reveals that this is the lowest seven- day average that has dropped since the week ending June 14 2020 - a time when the first wave of corona had hit India.
Since the peak of the second wave on May 9 when the daily cases averaged 391819 there has been a dip in cases and trend continued till now. However the rate of decline of weekly averages has come down in November. In comparison to October the average stood to 1.9% and in November 1.3%. This rise in positive numbers is because some states and districts have exhibited a slight bump in daily cases.
Festival seasons and lack of covid appropriate behavior are key reasons for increase in cases. Soon after the Dussehra festival which was celebrated on October 15, the seven day average daily cases has increased in 11 of 29 states (including Delhi) in the month-long period till November 15.
Out of these 11 states, two neighboring states of West Bengal and Assam have witnessed significant increase in positive cases with figures touching more than 100 cases, as per the report published in Hindustan Times. The 7 day average of daily cases has increased by 10.8 % in Assam (from 208 on October 15 to 231 on November 15) and 26.2% in West Bengal (from 666 on October 15 to 841 on November 15). In the same interval, the remaining nine states have registered a growth higher than West Bengal’s growth of 26.6% but the seven day average was still below 50 in all of them on November 15.
District wise break up of cases as data compiled by How India Lives shows that among districts showing an increase in the seven day average of daily cases in the past one month, five had 100 or more cases a day in the week ending October 15. From October 15 to November 15, Kolkata (44%) and Mumbai (37%) have registered the biggest increase among them.
Due to a surge in cases even when it is still confined to few states and districts, the government continues to emphasize to maintain Covid appropriate behavior of social distancing, masking and double dosage of vaccination.
Meanwhile the Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviy is constantly engaged with his counterparts in state government to boost up health infrastructures including adequate availability of medical grade oxygen in case of an emergency. Government hospitals have floated several tender bids to invite private companies to install an oxygen production plant and oxygen supply.
Bhartiya Cryogas is one such oxygen manufacturing company leading the government as well as private hospitals and healthcare facilities efforts to boost the oxygen supply network in India. Much before the Corona’s outbreak, the company has been India’s leading commercial oxygen manufacturer, manufacturer of oxygen plants, and oxygen cylinder filling plants. During the pandemic, they used their vast experience and facilities to immediately produce and supply medical grade oxygen.
During the second wave, Bhartiya Cryogas, top manufacturer and supplier of customized Cryogenic and PSA (PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION) Medical Oxygen Generation plants rose to meet national crisis by quickly turning its vast experience and facilities to produce and supply Medical PSA Oxygen Plant.
