Vaccines Still Effective Against Covid Variant Omicron: WHO Soumya
  • Suresh Pachauri

WHO Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan says that it appears that vaccines are still proving to be effective because even though the numbers of Covid cases due to variant Omicron are going up exponentially in many countries, severity of the disease has not surged to a new level.

A fresh wave of the highly contagious Omicron Covid-19 strain has swept across the world leaving millions of people struggling each day to overcome it. The new variant has seen a renewed surge in infections across Europe, America, and Australia leaving millions helpless as they cannot overcome the flu.

Countries that have successfully contained earlier versions of Covid are struggling to cope with its spread while new countries are also getting affected.

France has set a new record of over 2 lakh cases recorded in the last 24 hours, while the UK also sees 1,30,000 new infections. Meanwhile, the US also recorded 5.1 lakh daily cases, highest ever since the pandemic began. The count is continuing to rise across the EU and US.

The new variant has also resulted in high hospitalization overwhelming medical facilities and health workers, even in countries with high vaccination numbers. Cities including New York and London are seeing increasing hospitalization. Similar trends are witnessed across cities in Australia.

OMICRON CASES ALSO RISING IN INDIA

The trend of Covid surge, believed to be triggered from Omicron, spread to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday with a spike in the number of cases. Infections have risen in Delhi by over 86 percent with 923 new cases compared to the previous day. Mumbai recorded a massive jump with 2,510 new cases which was 809 on Monday. Maharashtra, which reported 3,900 fresh cases, highest in the country, recorded 20 deaths.

SURGE IN OXYGEN PLANTS DEMAND

Even the global demand for oxygen plants has increased due to Covid epidemic. The latest global outbreak of new corona variant Omicron has put urgency in boosting health care facilities and infrastructures. Adequate and abundant supply of medical oxygen is one of the most important infrastructure requirements that government authorities across the world are implementing.

Bhartiya Cryogas Limited is the leading Indian manufacturer and supplier of oxygen plant, dealing in large capacity O2 plant manufacturing systems for making oxygen from air and industrial gases from air separation units.

The company offers single, dual and multiple effect design Air Separation Plants which are particularly useful to process natural gas (Methane) and other hydrocarbon gases. Our O2 plants have a wide range of applications including petrochemical industry, sewage treatment plants, distilleries, sugar mills and pulp & paper mills. Some of its applications consist of H2S removal from natural gas in Oil & Gas industry, Ethylene production in Chemical & Petrochemical industry, Washing of SCM gases, and production of calcium carbide at power plants.

India's top manufacturers and suppliers of oxygen plants, the company also offers turnkey solutions for small, medium and large size businesses. Oxygen plant is the most effective way to package oxygen in cylinders for reuse in medicine, welding, food packaging, scuba diving etc.

There are several types of plants fabricated and supplied by Bhartiya Cryogas. They are:

CRYOGENICS

1) Medium Pressure Oxygen/Nitrogen Gas/Liquid Plants

2) Low Pressure Oxygen/Nitrogen Gas/Liquid Plants

PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION (PSA)
