W.H.O Issues Global Risk Warning Over Mutating New COVID Variant

India's Omicron Tally surged to 38 on Saturday as the death toll from a virulent new strain of the deadly SARS-like coronavirus reached six, underscoring growing fears about its rapid transmission.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed the Omicron coronavirus (OCV) among "priority pathogens that pose a risk to public health". The OCV has been reported in more than 60 countries, with Saudi Arabia confirming its first case on Wednesday.

A new strain of CoronaVirus, called Omicron Coronavirus, is reported to cause mild symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headache and muscle aches. However, as the virus mutates and adapts to a variety of hosts it has seen a dramatic increase in mortality rate worldwide.

Despite efforts to control the disease in susceptible regions such as the Middle East, South Asia and Africa by containment personnel, scientists are at odds with the spread of this rapidly-mutating virus with no known cure or vaccine.

WHO advises that it is important that travelers to countries with widespread and intense transmission of coronavirus infection take measures to avoid exposure to the virus, and to practice good hygiene. This advice is relevant to travelers from affected areas returning to any destination.

HIGH CHANCE OF RE-INFECTIONS

Omicron variant covid 19 is a virus that infects people with the common cold.
