Deadly Corona’s Delta Variant Spread to 104 countries
  • Noor Jehan

In its weekly epidemiological update, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the delta strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus has been most dominant amongst all variants of concern.

First discovered in India, the delta variant has a marked presence in 104 countries. Till now it is most transmissible amongst all variants identified and spread faster among the unvaccinated population.

While other Covid strains show decline globally, the delta variant showed predominant rise in sequences as per the publicly released datasets released by the WHO. Two months of sequences uploaded on Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Flu Data (GISAID), a global initiative providing open access to genomic data for influenza viruses and influenza viruses reveals that out of 814165 sequences uploaded 810946 (99.6%) were delta, 1163 (0.1%) gamma, 400 (-0.1%) alpha, 23 (. 0.1%) Beta and 0.2 % comprised other circulating variants.

In the week 7 November, 3.1 million new weekly cases or 1% increase were reported. Over 259 million cases and more than 5 million deaths have been reported since the beginning of covid pandemic outbreak, as per data available with WHO.

In the previous week, India recorded over 82,236 new cases or 6 new cases per 100,000 (16% decrease) and 11,271 new cases in the past 24 hours. Out of the total positive cases, active cases constitute 0.39% and are the lowest since March 2020. The weekly positivity rate stood at 1.01% and has remained less than two percent for the last 51 days. The daily positivity rate was 0.90%.

Explaining the prevalence of Delta variants, Lalit Kant, ex head of epidemiology and communicable diseases, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that it is a natural process for a virus to undergo mutations and only those survive which are beneficial to the virus while others perish. The global dominance of the Delta variant indicates that the mutation has helped the virus to survive and spread faster.

With the delta variant still surviving and spreading faster, government’s world over, including India remain on high alert mapping every data’s showing its rise. Several containment zones have sprung wherever positive cases have shot up.

PM Modi also regularly reviews the progress made in boosting up the health infrastructures to meet any outbreak of third wave. One of the biggest concerns during the second wave of pandemic was non availability of adequate lifesaving oxygen in hospitals. Both government and private run hospitals run out of medical grade oxygen due to sudden spike in their demand.

This is the reason for the government installing an oxygen production plant, an oxygen plants in a distinct hospital. Private commercial players like Bhartiya Cryogas, India’s leading manufacturer of oxygen plant, oxygen cylinder filling plant have expanded their role in producing and supplying medical grade oxygen.

During the second wave, Bhartiya Cryogas, top manufacturer and supplier of customized Cryogenic and PSA (PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION) Medical Oxygen Generation plants rose to meet national crisis by quickly turning it’s vast experience and facilities to produce and supply Medical PSA Oxygen Generator Plant.

P K Dutt, the Founder CEO of Bhartiya Cryogas claimed that within a record period of three months, his company beefed up their facilities on a war footing to design, fabricate and deliver customized highest quality standard Medical PSA oxygen

With impending third wave of Corona, a dedicated team of engineers have been deputed by the company for commissioning these PSA Oxygen Plant to Government Hospitals locatedat Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra as part of the ongoing contractual obligations. There are several types of pants fabricated and supplied by Bhartiya Cryogas. They are:

 CRYOGENICS

1) Medium Pressure Oxygen/Nitrogen Gas/Liquid Plants

2) Low Pressure Oxygen/Nitrogen Gas/Liquid Plants

PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION (PSA)

1) PSA/VPSA Oxygen/Nitrogen Generators

INDUSTRIAL GAS PLANTS

1) Hi-tech Acetylene plants

2) Nitrous Oxide plants

3) CO2 plants

4) Cylinder Filling Station
